The area is located on Parnitha Mountain, north-northwest of Athens Metropolitan Area. Parnitha Mountain is a designated National Park. It is covered mostly by Fir (Abies cephalonica) in pure or mixed stands with Aleppo pine (Pinus halepensis), Juniper (Juniperus sp.) and with broadleaved evergreen shrubs. Fir trees appear from 800 m a.s.l. Dieback of Fir has been observed. The area is administered by the Forest Service of Parnitha.
